ASPIRO's Board of Directors has temporarily appointed Scott King, Senior Vice President at Nicolet national Bank to fill a vacancy as a director. Scott has been an active supporter of ASPIRO for many years and previously served on the Board as Treasurer. For over 50 years ASPIRO has served individuals with disabilities and their families in Brown County.

Over 200 adults with cognitive disabilities from ASPIRO will have a special pep rally on Friday, January 11, 2008, from 2:30-2:50 p.m. to cheer the Green Bay Packers on to victory for the playoff game on Saturday, January 12. The event will take place at 1673 Dousman St. in the gym. ASPIRO has teamed up with Maria Smith, teacher with the Green Bay Public Schools and a parent to one of ASPIRO's clients. Maria had students make banners for the pep rally and Maria personally made over 270 Green Bay Packer scarves for all the participants to wear at the event.
For over 50 years ASPIRO has served individuals with cognitive disabilities and their families in Brown County.

ASPIRO, Inc. elected officers for the 2008 Board of Directors. Pat Schillinger was elected President, Pat Castiglione-Vice President; Barb Natelle-Secretary; and Dave Loritz-Treasurer.
New to the 2008 Board of Directors is: Rick Everson, Dorothy Josephs, and Veronica Trofka.

RFW and ASPIRO Honor Dennis Rasmussen and Timm Staeven of Green Bay with Excellence Awards for Demonstrating Dedication to Serving Individuals with Disabilities
GREEN BAY, Wis., August 30, 2007 – Rehabilitation for Wisconsin (RFW) is pleased to announce Dennis Rasmussen and Timm Staeven as recipients of the 2007 Excellence Award. Mr. Rasmussen and Mr. Staeven were each nominated for the award by ASPIRO, Inc. for their contributions to the organization and their dedication and support to serving individuals with disabilities in their communities for 46 years. They will be honored in an awards ceremony that will take place at 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 11 at:

ASPIRO is a Community Rehabilitation Program (CRP) that currently assists more than 1800 individuals and their families in the Green Bay area. ASPIRO creates opportunities for people with disabilities to reach goals, connect community and achieve independence through their more than 10 programs from birth through adulthood.
The services Wisconsin's CRPs provide are vital to people with disabilities in need of programs and resources to assist them in living and working in the community. According to U.S. Census Data, there are over 50 million people with some level of disability living in the United States, 10 million of whom report needing personal assistance with one or more activities of daily living. People with disabilities also experience a staggering unemployment rate of 70 percent, with over 11 million reporting a medical condition that makes it difficult to find a job or remain employed.
"RFW member organizations like ASPIRO provide essential vocational, residential and community support to over 50 thousand people with disabilities in Wisconsin communities," states RFW Executive Director Michael Kirby. "We are proud to recognize these individuals for their dedication to helping people with disabilities to experience a more fulfilling quality of life in Green Bay area communities."

ASPIRO will host members of the new Green Bay Bullfrogs baseball team on Thursday, April 19, 2007, at 1673 Dousman Street at 1:30 p.m. Representing the Bullfrogs will be Jeremiah the Bullfrog, team mascot and Casey Ausloos, Assistant General Manager/Director of tickets for the ball club. The representatives will meet with clients and pass out the team schedules.
The Bullfrogs, who are members of the Northwood's League, will play their first home game in Green Bay on June 4, 2007, at their home field Joannes Stadium. Staff and clients of ASPIRO hope to take a fieldtrip this summer to watch one of their games.
In the meantime, ASPIRO clients are preparing for their visit by practicing the Bullfrog slogan of "GRIP IT & RIBBIT."
Annually ASPIRO serves over 1,000 children and adults with disabilities. In 2007 ASPIRO celebrates 50 years of service in Brown County.

ASPIRO CELEBRATES 50 YEARS OF SERVICE IN BROWN COUNTY
In 1957, sixty-seven parents established the Brown County Association for Retarded Children now named ASPIRO. ASPIRO is a Latin word meaning to reach, climb toward something. Our mission is creating opportunities for people with disabilities to reach goals, connect community and achieve independence.
In honor of reaching this 50 year milestone, ASPIRO will celebrate with a 50th Anniversary Gala and Awards Presentation on the evening of Tuesday, May 8, 2007 at the Riverside Ballroom, 115 Newhall, Green Bay, WI. The evening will consist of a social at 5:00 p.m., dinner at 6:00 p.m., an awards presentation at 7:00 p.m. and entertainment provided by Let Me Frank Productions and ASPIRO clients at 8:00 p.m.
Reservations are $20.00 per person and $200.00 for a reserved table for eight people.

ASPIRO Receives Award
ASPIRO recently received a NISH Certificate of Achievement for 2006. NISH is the agency that coordinates the Federal Government Procurement Policy through the Javits-Wagner O'Day Act. The Act was enacted to provide training and employment activities for people with disabilities. ASPIRO produces wool scarves, disposable coveralls, and folding chairs for the Department of Defense, Defense Logistics Agency, and the Naval Industrial Fleet Supply Centers.
ASPIRO was evaluated in the following areas: the length of time producing the products, record of accurately fulfilling contract requirements, timely reporting, adherence to regulations, and the Procurement Agency's overall evaluation of contract quality and performance. ASPIRO excelled in all areas. This is the sixteenth time ASPIRO has been recognized.
ASPIRO is one of a number of Community Rehabilitation programs across the United States that proves that people with disabilities can be productive, contributing members of society. Since 1957 ASPIRO has created opportunities for people with disabilities to reach goals, connect community and achieve independence.

ASPIRO is pleased to announce the receipt of $15,000 over the next three years from the Leon H. and Clymene M. Bond Foundation.
This year, funds will be used to purchase a commercial reach-in freezer for our Food Services Department that serves around 130 meals a day.
For 50 years, ASPIRO has provided services to people with disabilities and their families. Our mission is to create opportunities for people to reach goals, connect community, and achieve independence. Annually, we serve more than 1,200 individuals.

On March 20 at 7:05 p.m., over 100 advocates, potential advocates and partners from ASPIRO's Citizen Advocacy Program will join the audience at the game between the Green Bay Gamblers Game and the Des Moines Buccaneers at the Resch Center. This annual outing is a much-anticipated event for advocates and partners of many years standing and is an example of numerous social and educational activities partners and advocates do together in the community in the course of a year.
Kevin Kohlbeck and the Green Bay Gamblers donated over one hundred tickets to the game between the Green Bay Gamblers and the Des Moines Buccaneers. This is one of a number of events and activities in 2007 to increase public awareness of the Citizen Advocacy program and the significant abilities people with disabilities have to contribute to our community.
Citizen Advocacy facilitates a one to one relationship between a person with a disability and a volunteer advocate from the community. There are currently over 125 Citizen Advocacy relationships in the Green Bay area and numerous people in our community that are in need of an advocate in their lives.

Paul Cantwell has joined the staff at ASPIRO as Director of Production. Cantwell has a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration and 15 years of work experience in the field of operations management.
Cantwell will be responsible for procuring sub-contract work, sales, and product development for the Work Services program.
For 50 years ASPIRO has provided a broad range of services to people with disabilities and their families. Cantwell's experience will enhance our mission to create opportunities for people with disabilities to reach goals, connect community and achieve independence.

January 1, 2007, will be the beginning of a year-long 50th anniversary celebration for ASPIRO (formerly Brown County Association for Retarded Citizens) in providing opportunities for people with disabilities to reach goals, connect community and achieve independence. In 1957, sixty-seven parents of children with cognitive disabilities established the organization. Their purpose was to inform the community of the needs of people with disabilities and to provide educational programs for children.
On January 12, as a kick-off to the year-long celebration, a Legislative Breakfast will be held from 7:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. State and federal legislators will join ASPIRO members, staff and board members to discuss issues of mutual interest. After the breakfast, ASPIRO will unveil its new signage outside their 1673 Dousman Street location. The new signage was made possible through a generous donation from Larry Chernick and the Chernick Family Foundation.
