A supportive service designed to give temporary care to children and adults with developmental disabilities. For the primary caregiver, it can mean a break in the routine, a day off, or even a vacation free of the daily caregiving responsibilities.
Most frequently requested services among families are:
In-Home Respite takes place in a family's home.
Foster Respite takes place in the home of the Respite Care Provider.
Community Respite takes place in a social setting. With permission, Respite Providers may take an individual into an environment outside of the home.
Families are able to choose and schedule respite care that will meet their needs.
Respite Providers are carefully screened and matched with families according to their schedules, preferences and skills.
Eligibility
- Families caring for an individual with a developmental disability in their home may be eligible for the Respite Care Program.
- Families must reside in Brown County.
- Eligibility is determined through a functional screen. Families interested in applying for the program should contact the Access Unit through the Brown County Human Services Department at (920) 448-6095 or ASPIRO for more information.
- Due to limited funding, eligibility does not guarantee that a family will immediately receive services. However, eligible families have the option to privately pay for respite care services through the program.
Cost of Service
Families are required to share in the cost of respite care. However, this is done on a sliding-fee basis. Many families do not incur a fee.
Become a Respite Care Provider
- Call (920) 498-2599 to speak with Respite Care staff. An application will be sent to you or click here for an application.
- Complete and return the application.
- Program staff will complete a criminal background check and reference checks, and an interview will be conducted.
- Providers who desire to work in families homes are hired as employees of ASPIRO. A home visit is conducted for independent contractors who want to provide respite in their own home.
- Respite Care Providers are introduced to families prior to scheduling respite care. Providers and families determine the compatibility of the match. After a successful match, providers are contacted directly by the families to schedule future respite care.
